One of the goals of the Outward Missions and Ministries Committee is for OMMC money to “follow the feet of our parishioners.” This means that funding follows where our parishioners invest their time, talent and treasure. The result is a three-pronged outreach—international, local and Episcopal Church support.
Christ’s commandment, “You shall love your neighbor as yourself,” is practiced daily in countless ways in the Good Shepherd community. “Neighbor” refers to fellow parishioners, fellow residents of Lookout Mountain, and to the people of the greater Chattanooga community. The Outward Missions and Ministries Committee disperses funds throughout our church, community and world. We are all part of the OMMC story.
In 2016 & 2017 Good Shepherd’s Outward Mission and Ministries Committee have given grants to the following:
- Bridge Refugee Services
- Lookout Mountain Conservancy
- Empty Bowls Project for Rossville Middle School
- A Step Ahead Foundation
- Chattanooga Community Kitchen Fast Day
- Children’s Nutrition Program of Haiti
- Girl’s Inc
- Family Promise
- Metropolitan Ministries
- Partnership for Families – Homemaker Services for the Elderly
Chosen for their special merit, these are all projects of community ventures with which Good Shepherd has had a long-time involvement. It’s a special blessing and privilege that we have the resources and the opportunity to make these gifts—stewardship at its best!
